Munxar Path

Marsaskala
Level: Basic or Intermediate
Duration: Leasurely 3 to 5 hrs.
Best start in the morning.

This hike can be tailored to your preference as it could be an easy power walk or an intermediate hike of 10Km.
Starting at the edge of Marsaskala we easily walk to the Munxar Window where it's possible and very pleasant to perhaps have a swim if the temperature is favorable. Back on track we reach the breathtaking Munxar Point. For the most adventurous ones, it is possible to actually descend to the limestone platform below. From the point we move to Xrobb l-Ghagin and enter the two large bays of Il-Ħofra l-Kbira (the great hole), and Il-Ħofra ż-Żgħira (the small hole). In the summer, swimming is possible at the small hole by descending a rather steep path, and the window between the two holes is accessible and spectacular. Continuing along the coast we reach Peter's pool and it's surrounding areas. From there it's either back the same way, or inland overlooking at Delimara and the ruins at Tas-Silg, back to Xrobb l-Ghagin and cutting through the fields to return to our starting point.

Sneak Preview

Depending on the season and weather conditions, we might be just as lucky to enjoy a beautiful sky and clouds.
Swimming is possible at several spots along the way. Snorkeling through the Munxar window is quite amazing, and so it is to pass through the window between the great and the small holes.

WHAT YOU NEED:
This hike can be as long as 10Km with quite a bit of ups and downs. Wear good hiking boots and bring an extra long sleave shirt and light long pants to prevent your beautiful skin from scratching against the rocks and occasional small thorns: nature didn't plan for us to be here.
Bring plenty of water and a light snack (nuts, cookies) in a small back pack or side saddle. Don't forget your camera if you want to bring home your own spectacular images. Bring extra dry cloths and a beach towel if you plan to swim, a mask and swimming fins might be a good idea if you can carry the extra weight. Don't forget your GoPro...
