Migra l-Ferha

Rabat
Level: Basic or Intermediate
Duration: Leasurely 2 to 3 hrs. Best start in the afternoon.

The starting point of this trek is the parking lot at Migra l-Ferha that can be reached from Rabat driving toward the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. Location for scenes from the latest remake of the movie "Papillon", the cliffs at Migra l-Ferha are simply spectacular. The intermediate hike includes descending at sea level through the ravine. Scuba divers are sometimes come here for a beautiful dip. According to a mere legend, Count Roger the Norman landed here in 1091 and brought his army onto the island. Rather unlikely, but colorful. We climb back up and proceed as for the Basic hike toward Migra l-Ferha along a 3Km nearly flat coastal walk. The view is worth the walk, and arriving at Blata tal-Melh is no less than amazing. Just look at the images we shot there. The return is along the same path. and takes usually about one hour between walking and picture taking.

Sneak Preview

Depending on the season and weather conditions, we might be just as lucky to enjoy such a beautiful sky and clouds. Should we begin our hike about 3 hours before sunset, we could witness the sun dipping in the water at our return to Migra l-Ferha

WHAT YOU NEED:
For this hike of about 6Km wear good hiking boots; a long sleave shirt and long pants will prevent your beautiful skin from scratching against the rocks and occasional small thorns: nature didn't plan for us to be here.
Bring plenty of water and a light snack (nuts, cookies) in a small back pack or side saddle. Don't forget your camera if you want to bring home your own spectacular images. Probably no swimming today unless you are an expert diver and have plenty of extra insurance.
